About the Blog

A few years back, I started a personal blog over on Cowboy Hazel. It wasn't really about running, but instead about whatever was going on in my life at the moment. As time went on, more and more of it had to do with running (as running became a bigger part of my life) and eventually I decided to split the blog into two and created To Badwater, my running blog. The original blog is no longer around and I've since moved the running blog here.

My ultimate running goal is to someday finish the Badwater Ultramarathon, a 135 mile running race held each July in Death Valley, California. It starts in Badwater at -282 feet elevation and ends at Whitney Portal, an elevation of 8,360 feet. In addition to the extreme distance and vertical gains, runners have to deal with temperatures that routinely reach past 120 °F. The combination of all three make Badwater one of the toughest, if not the toughest, races in the world.

2010 was a rough year for me on the ultra front. I finished my first 50 miler, but I ended up with a DNF in my first (and only so far) 100 mile attempt. I'm still planning on someday making it to Badwater, but it might not be as quickly as I had once hoped. The allure of chasing times at the shorter distances (mainly the marathon) has me distracted.
